Dance Qualifications
Good manners are a requisite. When asking a woman to dance you should extend your hand to her and say, "May I have the pleasure of this dance?" Then lead her to the dance floor. Of course it is always polite to smile and engage her in conversation. The ability to dance adequately and gracefully is essential for a Dance Host. It is recommended that you take dance classes from a local dance studio and visit dance clubs or dance socials in your area so that you are competent with the basic dances. You should feel comfortable with the following dances: Foxtrot, Merengue, Waltz, Cha-Cha, Rumba, Swing, Polka, Freestyle, and common Line Dances like the Electric Slide or Country Western. It's also helpful to know the basic steps of the Tango, Samba, Mambo, and Hustle. It's important not to act like a dance instructor. The woman you are dancing with just wants to enjoy the music and dance and it is your responsibility to see that she takes pleasure in dancing with you and looks good on the dance floor. After the dance is finished, thank her for the dance and walk her back to where she was sitting. Remember not to favor any particular partner. You must circulate and make sure all the single women feel welcome. If you are qualified to be a Dance Host, please fill out the Dance Host Application. In addition, we will need a recent photo, along with at least two recommendations - one character reference and one from a dance professional who can verify your dancing abilities. |
