Seminar Speakers

The Life Enrichment Lecture Program looks for individuals who have "hands on" knowledge and excellent interpersonal and communications skills. This program is an essential part of cruise activities. You will be expected to make effective presentations to the passengers, and interact with the cruise staff, so the quality of the presentations must meet the high standards set by the cruise line.

During the cruise you will present a specified number of lectures/seminars. For a seven day cruise you should be prepared to do four different lectures. Naturally, more lectures will be required for longer cruises. The number will be determined by "To Sea With Z" and we will inform you when we book the cruise. The lectures should be 45 minutes in length, be informative and entertaining, and use PowerPoint presentations when possible. Always leave time for questions at the end of each session.

Once we have confirmed your booking, you will need to provide "To Sea With Z" with the titles of each of your lectures. The format should be as follows:

bulletYour Name
bulletName of Ship
bulletDate of Sailing
bulletOne Biographical Paragraph
bulletLecture Titles & Summary
bulletEquipment Requirements

There is a variety of audio-visual equipment available aboard the ship. However you must bring your own laptop if this is necessary for your presentation.

Once you are on board, you will be contacted by one of the Cruise Director's staff. They are responsible for all of the entertainment and activities on the ship, including the lecture program. The Cruise Staff will meet with you on the first day and confirm your lecture schedule - everything for the seminars must be coordinated through the Cruise Director's Department. Every night you and all passengers receive a cruise newsletter with the following day's schedule and activities. Be sure to read this carefully to determine if there are any changes to your schedule.

The appropriate attire for male Lecturers is nice slacks with a long-sleeved shirt or a Polo shirt with a sport jacket. No tie is necessary. Casual cruise wear is suitable for women - either a pantsuit, pants with a coordinated top, a casual dress or skirt and blouse- but please no shorts or sandals.

You shall retain the ownership rights of any audio-visual or printed materials that you prepare in conjunction with your presentation. However, you agree to allow your lectures to be videotaped for replay and to be interviewed by the Cruise Director (or a ship representative) for replay on the in-house television system during the length of the cruise.

You are considered an independent contractor. You are not allowed to solicit any business during the cruise. This restriction includes distributing business cards, email addresses, advertising brochures, videotapes or other items that would publicize your company. You are onboard for a vacation and the lecture program is solely for the pleasure of the passengers, not a means to acquire new business.

The party atmosphere of a cruise lends itself to consuming alcohol. Social drinking is allowed (one or two drinks), but excessive consumption of alcohol is prohibited. It will not only impair your ability to be a lecturer, but it is inappropriate and unpleasant for the cruise guests. The Captain of the ship has the authority to immediately dismiss intoxicated staff members, including Lecturer/Seminar Speakers. The moral of the story is to drink responsibly. Smoking is not permitted in any public area.

Objectionable statements are not permitted. This includes offensive jokes, obscenities or disparaging remarks about any person or group on the basis of race, color, creed, age, sex, religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity, disability or national origin. This behavior would be damaging, not only to you, but to the reputation of the cruise line.

If you anticipate a problem, or receive a negative comment, please discuss it with the Cruise Director immediately. Do not wait until the end of the cruise and have negative comments appear on your evaluation. If you are not properly performing your responsibilities, you will be required to attend a special meeting with members of the staff. If your behavior continues to be unacceptable, you will be terminated from your duties and arrangements for your debarkation at the next available port will be arranged at your own expense. If you have any questions or concerns, the Cruise Director or cruise staff is always available to assist you.

A Lecturer/Seminar Speaker is not allowed to play bingo, horse racing, or any other activity in which prizes may be won. Other shipboard activities such as bridge or sporting activities are permitted. The lecturer is not allowed to accept gratuities at any time.

You may not use, possess or bring, any narcotics, other controlled substances, any firearms or other weapons either on or off the ship.

You will be receiving confirmed cabin space, which is a double passenger cabin. As a Guest Lecturer onboard you are NOT permitted to ask for any kind of a stateroom change. If you are on for more than one sailing, we will always try to keep you in the same cabin. We will be contacting you with your cabin number approximately 1 week prior to sailing. Please bring your VALID PASSPORT and picture I.D. Please make your air or ground travel arrangements so that you board the ship between 12:00 Noon and 2:00 PM the day of sailing. Please always check your cruise itinerary at the Cruise Line's website and if there is any discrepancy, call our office. Usually, you will find a welcome letter in you cabin stating a time to meet with a cruise staff member to discuss when and where you will be lecturing. If no letter is in your cabin leave a note and your room number at the information desk for the Cruise Director or Assistant Cruise Director to let them know you are onboard.

If you cancel your voyage or make any other changes in plans, you must notify "To Sea With Z" immediately. If you should cancel your cruise less than 12 weeks prior to sailing for any reason, you will forfeit the entire fee paid. If the cruise line cancels the trip prior to departure, you will receive a full refund for the monies paid to "To Sea With Z."

Once aboard the ship you can look forward to a wonderful experience. Not only will you enrich the voyage for other passengers, you will meet new people and visit exotic destinations. If you sign up for Shore Excursions you will experience the unique culture of each port. During the cruise you can enjoy the other shipboard activities such as the discos, the pool and the shows -- not to mention the gourmet cuisine.
